The sun sets slowly in the afternoon, and the light is low and beautiful in this part of town. Our neighborhood sits on the east side of the mountains. It's on the edge of the city, where coyotes and mountain lions are often caught on people's home security cameras. A vast municipal park is down the street and Alma, our daughter has grown up playing in its mountains. Our friends live nearby and we eat dinner outside, drinking wine and cooking over fire. Most of us have come from New York or Europe, to escape cold winters and small spaces... But sometimes we actually crave rain and old buildings. We have traded the romance of the street for the sound of owls at night.

ゆっくりと陽が沈む、美しい街。
ロサンゼルスの中心部から離れたこのエリアでは、コヨーテやピューマに遭遇することも珍しくない。

豊かな自然の中でのびのびと育つ娘のアルマ。
妻や友人とは、週末に庭でワインを飲みながら夕食を食べるのがお決まりだ。

数年前、ニューヨークの寒い冬と決して広いとは言えない部屋から逃れるようにこの地にやってきた。

時折、真冬の寒さに追い討ちをかけるように積もる雪や、古い建物が恋しくなることもある。

それでも、今となっては、寝静まる頃に聞こえるフクロウの鳴き声や見渡す限りの自然を手放すことはできない。
